Santa Cruz Backpacking Trip

Reservations have being made for the troop’s annual backpacking trip to Santa Cruz Island, arguably our favorite camping destination!  This trip will take place from Thursday March 31 (boat leaves the harbor at 9 AM) to Saturday April 2, 2016 (boat leaves the island at 10 AM).

Troop 649 Scouts will be collecting donated non-perishable food items for BSA’s Scouting for Food on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016. All items are donated to local food pantries for those in need in our community.

Cause for Paws Community Event – Oct. 10th

Help support the non-profit Pet Stop Rescue. A free community event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, 10 am – 5 pm, at Sycamore Drive Community Center, 1692 Sycamore Drive, Simi Valley, CA.

Bring the whole family for a fun filled day of activities and events, including animal specialty booths, dog contests, animal adoptions, music, silent auction, food, and much more…

…including a chance to meet Troop 649 Scouts at our booth. Come on out and visit us!

  • Community/religious event dates
  • Personal dates that may affect participation in troop’s activities, such as your anniversary cruise

– POT LUCK Side dish. (Troop provides hamburgers, hot dogs, rolls.)

– Chairs, pop-ups, sunscreen

– Pool wear!

Camp Chawanakee Info and Forms

We are meeting at Rancho Tapo Community Park (Lemon Park) at 7:00 AM on Sunday, July 26. We are LEAVING PROMPTLY AT 7:30!!! Bring money for gas and lunch for BOTH travel days, as well as for the trading post while we are at camp.

Summer Meeting Schedule

Due to summer vacation, Santa Susana Elementary School (our usual meeting place) is closed. We are now meeting at Lemon Park (Rancho Tapo Community Park) at 6:30 PM every other Tuesday beginning 07-07-2015. These are Class B (any Scouting t-shirt) meetings.

 

Once school resumes (first day 08-17-2015), we will return to Santa Susana Elementary School for our normal meeting schedule (every Tuesday beginning 08-18-2015 at 6:30 PM, Class A).

Matilija Overnighter – 5/16/15

Status of troop Matilija Backpack trip planned for Saturday/Sunday, 5/16/15.

Departure: Saturday, 5/16 from Lemon Park.  Time TBD.
Update to follow when available (likely Thursday night).

Return: Sunday, 5/17 by 4 PM.

Campfires are currently allowed at our Middle Matilija campsite.
Meals are being planned by patrol.

Required for EACH person:
2 litres (at least) of water
Tent, as assigned
Sleeping bag
Sleeping pad
Sturdy hiking boots (waterproof might be desirable given the possibility of wet conditions)
10 essentials
Appropriate clothing –   to avoid “overpacking”, layering works best.

Weather:
Rain (including thunderstorms) is expected in that area on Thursday and Friday, should be gone by Saturday.  That would be about the same conditions of the trip last December.  However, if thunderstorms continue into Saturday be advised that it could mean postponing the trip.
Temperatures are forecast with highs of about 67F and lows of about 47F.  In the canyon, it may be slightly cooler.  Bring appropriate clothing.
